Not too many people argue anymore about the reality of the "Information Age," however neither have many Enterprises prepared to address the orders of magnitude increases in complexity and orders of magnitude increases in the rate of change that are incumbent in this new age. Neither working harder and faster nor some piece of technological magic are going to be adequate to accommodate these dramatic increases. Only an Enterprise Architectural strategy will save the day. This is a presentation on the physics of Enterprise Architecture, the stark reality of the actual engineering work that will have to take place if the Enterprise is to be successful in view of these new realities. This is a kind-of "cold shower" approach to focusing attention on the nature of the trade-offs involved and the dire need to invert the information community's priorities from building and running systems to engineering a flexible, aligned, integrated Enterprise that can accommodate complexity and high rates of change.
John A. Zachman is the originator of the "Framework for Enterprise Architecture" which has received broad acceptance around the world as an integrative framework, or "periodic table" of descriptive representations for Enterprises.Mr. Zachman has been focusing on Enterprise Architecture since 1970 and has written extensively on the subject. He has facilitated innumerable executive team planning sessions. He travels nationally and internationally, teaching and consulting, and is a popular conference speaker, known for his motivating messages on Enterprise Architecture issues.
