In the years since the tech meltdown, there has been a resurgence of interest in everything to do with business processes, driven by disappointment with investments in new IT platforms, ERP, the "e-ing" of everything, and other silver bullets. There is general agreement that by refocusing on business processes, organizations can achieve real benefits. Taking advantage of this trend, Data Management groups have found that adopting "process orientation" has been a powerful approach for furthering their goals while delivering value to the enterprise. This presentation will describe proven approaches, including:
- How process orientation can raise data management's profile and improve alignment.
- What data management professionals need to know about "business process," including the most common pitfalls.
- A case study involving the Northern Ireland Criminal Justice System, with references to other examples.
