Business rules development is a hot area for the development
community. Business rules provide a more formal way of understanding
how businesses operate. By integrating Business Rules into the
development process, the resultant systems more closely model the
operations of business, and facilitate the communications between
business users and systems developers. Business rules development
processes result in systems that are created more quickly, map better
to the business processes, and are more flexible and maintainable due
to their declarative nature. This development process also focuses the
team more on solving the "What" of the business problem, and
less on the "How". Online Business Systems has created many
Business Rules based systems for their clients. This presentation will
focus on the nature of Business Rules development, including what
changes in the system development lifecycle. The benefits of Business
Rules development will be viewed from the aspects of " Decreased
development time " Decreased risk " Increased flexibility
" Increased adaptability for ongoing change " Improved
communications between business and development personnel
Case studies will be presented of systems created using Business
Rules methodologies and toolsets.
